Being a cat parent is a deeply rewarding journey. But giving our cats a safe and healthy life also means being proactive about their wellbeing and taking responsibility for their safety.
Responsible cat parenting starts with understanding the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) Cat Management Framework, and taking simple, practical steps to protect our cats at home and beyond.
As shared by Gail Low (Liu Jiaying), Founder and Operator of & CAT STUDIO in a 24 July 2026 feature with Lianhe Zaobao:
“Cats are our family. Microchipping and licensing our cats is part of being a legal and loving parent.”
Give Your Cat an Identity
Microchipping and licensing your cat provides a permanent form of identification. After the licence is issued, your cat’s unique microchip number links directly to your contact information in the official AVS database.
Valuable, Long-Term Benefits of Microchipping
- Permanent identification: Even indoor cats can become lost through an open door or window. A microchip provides a reliable way to identify them if they are found.
- Quick and gentle: A microchip is roughly the size of a grain of rice and takes only a few seconds to implant. The procedure is generally well tolerated by cats and causes minimal discomfort.
- Peace of mind: In the event of an unexpected incident, a registered microchip can help identify your cat and reunite them with you.
Cat-Proof Your Home
Microchipping helps protect your cat if they become lost. But preventing accidents, escapes and injuries starts at home.
Cat-proofing your home is not about restricting your cat. It is about giving them a safe environment in which they can explore and be themselves. Cats are naturally curious and love to climb, explore and investigate their surroundings.
- Secure Windows & Balconies: Install sturdy mesh or narrow-gap grille to prevent dangerous falls or sudden escapes.
- Clear Hazards: Keep toxic plants such as lilies, loose wires, small objects that could be swallowed, and cleaning chemicals safely out of reach.
- Provide Enrichment: Offer scratching posts, vertical trees, and quiet hiding spots to keep your cat mentally active indoors.
These simple measures can go a long way towards reducing the risks cats face at home, while allowing them the freedom to express their natural behaviours.
Peace of Mind When You Are Away
At & CAT STUDIO, we believe responsible cat care begins long before a cat arrives at our hotel. It starts at home, with a safe environment, proper identification and thoughtful preparation for the unexpected.
In support of the AVS Cat Management Framework from 1 September 2026, we will only accept microchipped and licensed cats.
If you are unfamiliar with the application process, you can refer to the detailed guide on the AVS official website, which explains the requirements for licensing, microchipping and related procedures.
Responsible cat ownership goes beyond providing food and companionship. It is about understanding our cats, anticipating their needs and creating an environment where they can feel safe, comfortable and secure.
Because ultimately, good cat care is about giving them not just a safe home, but a good life.
