Give Your Cat an Identity

Microchipping and licensing your cat provides a permanent form of identification. After the licence is issued, your cat’s unique microchip number links directly to your contact information in the official AVS database.

  • Permanent identification: Even indoor cats can become lost through an open door or window. A microchip provides a reliable way to identify them if they are found.

  • Quick and gentle: A microchip is roughly the size of a grain of rice and takes only a few seconds to implant. The procedure is generally well tolerated by cats and causes minimal discomfort.

  • Peace of mind: In the event of an unexpected incident, a registered microchip can help identify your cat and reunite them with you.

  • Secure Windows & Balconies: Install sturdy mesh or narrow-gap grille to prevent dangerous falls or sudden escapes. 

  • Clear Hazards: Keep toxic plants such as lilies, loose wires, small objects that could be swallowed, and cleaning chemicals safely out of reach.

  • Provide Enrichment: Offer scratching posts, vertical trees, and quiet hiding spots to keep your cat mentally active indoors.

These simple measures can go a long way towards reducing the risks cats face at home, while allowing them the freedom to express their natural behaviours.

In support of the AVS Cat Management Framework from 1 September 2026, we will only accept microchipped and licensed cats.
